Summer is technically over in the Northern Hemisphere of our world. Meanwhile, in the lower half of the world, winter is ending and flowers will start blossoming soon.
The last time I wrote here, summer was starting and I was getting ready for a tour with Plena Libre in the U.S. We toured around the Midwest and the West Coast and played the Pan Am games in Toronto. It felt incredible to experience representing Puerto Rico and our Plena around the world with this band while trying to push the limits a bit on the way that timbales are played in this genre.
The summer residency at the Rainbow Room in New York City with Max Weinberg Orchesthra turned out to be a success and lots of fun. Every Monday was packed with music lovers & dancers looking forward to enjoy a big band that featured some of the best players I've ever met in NY.
All of that happened, but new things have occurred as well.
I just got back from the great country of Chile where Gonzalo Grau's Plural group featuring Manolo Mairena, Alex Alvear, David Rivera and myself on percussion played at the Maestra Vida Club for a whole weekend.
I want to give special thanks to Charlie, Paz, Eduardo and Miguel for the amazing hospitality and also to all the Chilean musicians and friends that are now brothers and sisters for their given love & support.
At the moment, I'm multitasking by writing this, doing laundry and packing for the Lila Downs Fall tour at the same time which, by the way, starts Sept. 19th at the Los Angeles Pantages Theater.
Here are the rest of the dates:
September 19 - Los Angeles-Pantages Theater
September 22- Tucson, Az-Fox Theater
September 24- El Paso, Tx-The Plaza Theater Performing Arts Center
October 1- New York-Apollo Theater
October 3- Miami-The Fillmore
I hope to see some of you out there on the road!
All the best,
